My Wonderful Life (Movie Review)
A look at My Wonderful Life offers an insight into the human condition. It shows participants creating their own memorials, and the rawness of family life. There are also faddy collections, animated ode cards, and a dead person speaking from the other side. It’s not a straightforward story, but the film makes death less bleak and a little less obvious than we usually think. Is it a good movie? Read on to find out.
Joanna Lisiecka
‘My Wonderful Life’ is a classic Polish movie that portrays the journey of a woman trying to live a “double life”. As an educator, a mother, a wife and a friend, Joanna has many roles to play in her life. She tries to make ends meet while hiding a secret from the world, but at the end she has to decide whether she should risk her reputation to live a “double life” and pursue her true passions.
Janek’s secret affair
A secret affair between a New York police detective and a beautiful young woman is a central theme of this thriller. After a string of high-profile cases, Janek is assigned to the case of a mysterious young woman who is suspected of murder. In the meantime, Jo is secretly meeting Maciek, a teacher at the same school. As their love lives become increasingly intertwined, Janek is faced with new challenges. Jo’s mother, Karina, suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. Witek, meanwhile, is having a mid-life crisis, spending his time running in the bar with young men. And Janek spends too much time alone in his room, smoking pot and talking on the phone.
Janek’s relationship with a fellow science teacher
The absurd montage at the end of “My Wonderful Life” hints at the fact that Janek is involved in the blackmail plot. The blackmailer had threatened to expose Jo’s relationship with Witek to the entire city if she did not reveal the truth. The blackmailer also hoped that Jo would reveal the truth to Witek and break all ties with him. But that wasn’t to be.
