Dental Implant Procedure

Dental implants replace the roots of missing teeth, providing a strong foundation for artificial replacement teeth. Implants can replace a single tooth, several teeth in a row, or all of the teeth in a jaw. Implants are made of titanium, a bio-compatible metal that fuses to bone in a process called osseointegration. The success of dental implants depends on many factors, including patient selection, surgeon skill, and bone quality. Patients who have good oral hygiene and who do not smoke or have chronic medical conditions are more likely to experience successful implant outcomes.잠실치과

Before getting an implant, you’ll need to have a comprehensive exam with your dentist or oral surgeon. They will evaluate your teeth, gums and jawbone, taking X-rays and making plaster models if necessary. They will also discuss your medical history to make sure you have no health issues that could interfere with healing after the surgery.

If you have dental insurance, the procedure may be partially covered. The best way to find out exactly how much your insurance provider will cover is to call them directly before you schedule an appointment. Keep in mind that different providers have different coverage rates, and they may also bill you for parts of the implant process at different times. You can also use money from an FSA or HSA account to pay for some of the costs.잠실치과

During the dental implant procedure, your dentist or oral surgeon will create a hole in your jawbone using a drill. They will then insert a titanium metal post that functions as an artificial tooth root. The implant will need time to heal, during which the surrounding bone will grow into and around it, forming a solid base for the future crown. During this period, you will probably need to wear a temporary denture or bridge to fill the empty area.

After the implant has healed, your dentist will attach a piece known as an abutment to the post. This will help the future crown fit securely in place. They might also add a small piece called a fixture to the post, which will hold the restoration.

Finally, the dentist will attach a crown to the abutment, completing the implant. The final result should look and feel like a natural tooth.

Dental implants are more expensive than other treatment options for replacing missing teeth, but they provide long-term stability and a more natural appearance. In addition, they prevent adjacent teeth from drifting into the gap and loosening over time. Dental implants can also help prevent the bone loss that occurs when a tooth is removed. However, dental implants aren’t right for everyone. Patients with certain health issues, such as uncontrolled diabetes or osteoporosis, should not receive them. Also, smokers have a higher risk of complications from implant surgery.송파치과
